Through our Schools Work we aim to provide and facilitate Christian and community input to the learning experience of young people in schools. Our involvement will always be tailored to the needs of the school. We have a wide range of experience in leading a variety of Schools Work for both Primary and Secondary Schools, including assemblies, RE Lessons, PHSE Lessons, Workshops and Clubs.

We have built up some very strong partnerships with both Primary and Secondary Schools, as good relationships with pupils and staff are central to our work.

Assemblies & Lessons

We seek to deliver engaging and relevant school assemblies and lessons. These have a foundation in the Christian faith and seek to support the schools RE and PHSE syllabus. They also enable the children and young people to grow and deepen their understanding of Christianity and reflect upon their own life, faith and values.

Below are some examples of our assemblies and lessons themes:

  • Assemblies: Meaning of Christmas, Attitudes & Actions, The Lord’s Prayer and Anger.
  • PHSE Lessons: Anti-Bullying and Secondary School Transition.
  • RE Lessons: Christians in the Community, Existence of God and Religion and the Natural World.

Workshops

We currently run two Workshops for Primary Schools, aimed for Year 6 children: Christmas Unwrapped and Easter Eggs-plained. Each workshop aims to help the children discover the story and meaning of these Christian Festivals. The Workshop lasts for about 90 minutes and includes a variety of activities and games.

We have received very positive feedback from pupils and staff, including:

I learnt a lot and it was extremely enjoyable and this is because you made it enjoyable. It has been a first time experience, learning in depth about the nativity.

I have told my family about it and they thought it was amazing! (Harry; School Year 6)

I thought the children really enjoyed this session and have taken a lot from it. It was a fun way for them to have some religious education. [I liked] the energy and thought it was well pitched at children’s level. (Member of Teaching Staff)

School Clubs

The Zone Clubs, offered to Primary Schools, are an opportunity for children to learn more about the Bible and Jesus; this is done through activities, games and discussions. The children have opportunity to connect to the wider community through the team of staff and volunteers that run the clubs.

The Drama & Storytelling Club is an opportunity to encourage children to explore and learn a variety of drama techniques (including body language, facial expressions, sound effects) through fun games and activities.  Through this club the children develop their drama and storytelling skills and gain confidence as they perform in front of their peers.  We have received very positive feedback from pupils and staff, including:

‘[I have learnt that] body language is different to speech’

‘I have learn’t [sic] having fun here, learning music and acting.  I love drama club’

‘[I have learnt] how to do some facial expressions and to learn to be confident at acting’

‘[I have learnt that] facial expressions can describe how we feel’.
