You are … LOVED

Part 1 in the series ‘You Are …’.

‘God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son so that whoever believes in him may not be lost, but have eternal life.’

The Bible – John chapter 3 verse 16 (New Century Version)

I wonder, if I asked you the question ‘what do you LOVE?’, how would you respond?

Would it be people, places, hobbies, possessions?  Love is a word that we use frequently, in different contexts and in reference to different areas of our lives.

The word ‘love’ is used throughout the Bible – but when we look at the original Greek, there are a number of different words that have been translated to mean love.  One of these is ‘agape’; this means unconditional love, the kind of love that God has for us.

God loves us so much, that as that verse said at the beginning, He sent Jesus to earth – to live a human life, to die on a cross and to rise again – so that we could be forgiven of all the wrong things that we think and say and do and have an everlasting friendship with Him.  Absolutely, it pleases God when we choose to put Him first and to go His way; He desires to have a friendship with each and every one of us, but He doesn’t love us any less for the mistakes we have made.

God loves us unconditionally – when we make good choices, God loves us; when we make bad choices, God loves us; when we choose to live God’s way, God loves us; when we choose to go our own way, God loves us.  There is nothing we can do to make God stop loving us. In the Bible, in the book of Lamentations, it says:

‘The Lord’s love never ends; his mercies never stop. They are new every morning; Lord, your loyalty is great.’

The Bible – Lamentations chapter 3 verses 22-23 (New Century Version)

Sometimes, it can be hard to really accept that an all knowing, all powerful, ever present God can really love us … but it is true!  The Bible is full of statement after statement declaring God’s love for us!  God loves us so much that we are called His children (1 John chapter 3 verse 1).  God loves us so much that He has a plan for each one of us (Jeremiah chapter 29 verse 11).  God loves us so much that looks at us compassionately and doesn’t get angry easily (Psalm chapter 86 verse 5).  God loves us so much that He forgives us (John chapter 3 verse 16).  God loves us so much that He delights in us (Zephaniah chapter 3 verse 17).

Do you really believe it? Do you really believe that God loves you?

Why not take some time, to allow this incredible truth to sink in, so that you really can believe what the Bible says about God’s love for you.
